FAQ
Common questions:
Question: What difference does a spray booth make for kitchen cabinet refinishing?
Answer: A LOT!! When we are working in the spray booth we have a cross breeze going which prevents boogers, dust, fuzzies, etc landing on a wet surface. The bake cycle allows us to "bake" your finish on so it's harder, more durable and smoother than a finish not done in a spray booth. A makeshift spray booth and an exhaust fan simply aren't the same.
Question: What's the difference between Envirolak and something like Benjamin Moore ScuffX?
Answer: Envirolak was formulated for professionals for wood coatings use. We can tint the primer to match the paint regardless of how dark it is which helps the topcoat cover better. Both primer and topcoat are a 2K system which means hardener is added. Harder, more durable and provides a smoother finish! Envirolak is also one of the only water based, environmentally friendly products on the market. 1
Question: What are the advantages of a 2K wood coatings product?
Answer: Great question. The advantages of 2K wood coating product, particularly for kitchen cabinets includes:
- Durability: 2K wood coatings products are known for their resilience due to the inclusion of hardeners that chemically cure the finish. This results in a finish that is resistant to chipping, scratches, and other types of damage, making it ideal for high-traffic areas like kitchens. See the Weed-Wacker video HERE
- UV Protection: It offers high resistance to UV light, which helps maintain color vibrancy and prevents fading over time. This is particularly beneficial for surfaces exposed to sunlight.
- Improved Coverage: With a higher pigment concentration, 2K products provides better coverage with fewer coats. This efficiency can save time and reduce material costs during application.
- Faster Drying Time: Compared to single-component paints, 2K products dry more quickly and have shorter curing time, allowing for faster project completion.
- Chemical Resistance: 2K finishes are resistant to various chemicals, making them easier to clean and maintain. This feature allows for the use of strong cleaning agents without damaging the surface. See our Nail Polish Remover video HERE
- Moisture Resistance: The protective barrier formed by 2K coatings minimizes the impact of moisture on wood surfaces, reducing the likelihood of peeling or cracking due to wood movement. See submersion videos HERE and HERE
- Abrasion Resistance: It provides a tough layer that protects against wear and tear from daily use, ensuring that cabinets remain in good condition over time. See Crazy Cat video HERE
- Professional Finish: The application of 2K coatings results in a smooth, glossy finish that enhances the aesthetic appeal of cabinets and other surfaces, giving them a professional look.
- Long-lasting Color Retention: 2K coatings maintain their color integrity over time, ensuring that the surfaces remain vibrant and true to their original color even after prolonged exposure to light and wear.
- Versatile Applications: While commonly used in automotive finishes, 2K finishes are also highly effective for kitchen cabinets and other furniture due to its durability and aesthetic qualities.
Question: What is the difference between kitchen cabinet painting and kitchen cabinet refinishing?
Answer: There are major difference between kitchen cabinet painting and refinishing from the installation process to materials used. Most people who paint cabinets use a locally sourced trim paint meant for interior walls or trim, while a refinisher uses something actually designed for kitchens and hard use. Paint has a short lifespan and sets up the homeowner into a cycle that requires repainting every 3-5 years due to coating failure . A refinisher can give you a true wood coating that will last double even triple that due to its ability to withstand kitchen chemicals, grease and daily wear and tear. We scoured the market to find the best wood coatings product that was safe for the environment, yet able to hold up to the daily grind of the typical family kitchen. The product we chose gets baked on in our state of the art spray booth. This provides you with a factory style finish that you can be proud of.
